Whether you live in a larger home or a smaller apartment, it is very possible you will be looking for ways to maximize the floor space in your kids’ rooms. When you add a bed, dresser, toy chest, bureau and the actual toys, even the largest of children’s bedrooms can become cluttered. While they aren’t as popular today as in previous generations, you may want to consider a pop up trundle bed as a space-saving option in your home. This kind of bed is really two beds that can convert into a single bed when half of the mattress space lowers and slides underneath the rest of the bed. These beds are mostly called “trundle units” but have also been known as “truckle beds” previously. By providing a larger sleeping space for one or two people, but still only taking up the floor space of a single bed, this kind of bed unit helps a room’s flexibility in use.

While you may not think you have ever seen a trundle bed while shopping for furniture, odds are you have but just didn’t recognize it. When you visit stores you may have to ask about the onsite inventory of trundle beds and if any other models are available for order. Larger stores will have at least a few that you will be able to see and try out. As is the case with other traditional bed models you will be able to select different quality levels of mattresses for pop up trundle beds.

In addition to helping add more useable space in a bedroom for kids, a twin pop up trundle bed will also work out wonderfully in many guest rooms where you also want to maximize space. In many cases you may only have guests once or twice every few months and won’t want to dedicate an entire room that is only used every six to eight weeks. By having a twin bed that includes a trundle, you can be ready for single guests and couples at anytime. While researching this article we were able to find a twin trundle bed in solid wood and espresso color finish for right around two-hundred and fifty dollars. Often furniture makers will also have a line of items that will match beds and other items from the same collection.

If you decide to look for a pop up trundle bed in neighborhood garage sales or through online classified ads, you will want to make sure the bed you select is in good shape and sturdy. By looking at each moving joint of the bed and inspecting how well the trundle “pops” or moves will give you a good idea of how old the bed is. Often older trundle beds will have plenty of life left in them even if they are less that new looking. When looking at any used or new bed you should make sure you take correct measurements and insure it will fit in the room in your home before trying to move it in.
